Reading | One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” "The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.a Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ and the second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”| Who is the Messiah? David's line - no; God's line - yes; warning to religious leaders; Jesus cries for Jerusalem; great offering.

Invitatory Psalm
Be joyful in the Lord, all you lands;
serve the Lord with gladness
and come before his presence with a song.
Know this: The Lord himself is God;
he himself has made us, and we are his;
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and call upon his Name.
For the Lord is good;
his mercy is everlasting;
and his faithfulness endures from age to age.

Collect of the Day: Pentecost, proper 25
Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and charity; and, that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Mission
O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore: Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you, all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
