Bible in Time 2016 - Day 9 of Advent

Watch, for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning, lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. Mark 13:35, 36

Psalm 25 - Individual lament (click here). To you O Lord I give my soul - protect, lead, guide, teach me. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for my hope has been in you.
Amos 7 - the prophet for tells of the Exile, God will use a plumb line - Israel will be laid waste.
Revelation of John 1 - Introduction to the great mystical vision of the coming of Jesus with all glory and honor. The blog writer thinks this book was a prediction of the fall of Rome. Jesus is the Alpha (the beginning) and the Omega (the end) - judgement is coming. John's revelation is set in the context of the highest heaven in attempting to describe a righteous judgement to come. Some of the book of Revelation has been a liturgical resource of great and poetic descriptions; how does the modern day Christian balance a God who loves all creation and this destruction that is predicted?
Matthew 22 - Jesus encounters a group of religious leaders who do not believe in the resurrection and uses Scripture to proclaim an everliving God as we will be when we join God fully. The crowd reacts with astonishment about the teaching.

Collect of the Day: Second Sunday of Advent
Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
