Saturday after the First Sunday in Lent

Opening Sentence

Rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and repents of evil. Joel 2:13

Read Today

Ps. 55; Ps. 138 139:1–17 (18–23); Gen. 41:1–13; 1 Cor. 4:1–7; Mark 2:23—3:6

Psalm 55
I have seen violence and strive and I am afraid; Take this fear from me; I have even been betrayed by friends; I will call upon God and the Lord will hear my voice and will bring them down. I will trust in you.

Geneses 41
Pharaoh dreams a dream and can't figure it out; the cup bearer saved tells Pharaoh of Joseph and his ability to read and interpret dreams.

1 Corinthians 4
We are servants the stewards of the mysteries of God; Do not judgement against me for what I teach you; It is not you teacher but only Christ Jesus who teaches us; it is not the teacher but the One who is taught about.

Mark 2/3
Jesus was moving and walking on the Sabbath and his disciples did work and eat the grain; the Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath for the Sabbath was made for humanity; they hated him for breaking the Sabbath law and conspired to kill him for his blasphemy.

Today:  "It has always been done that way before" is a philosophy that would have prevent the newness of Christ and the continuing creation of God; Jesus says, "See, I make all things new!"

A Collect for Saturdays

Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all you works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
