Thursday after the Second Sunday in Lent

Opening Sentence

To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness, because we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God by following his laws which he set before us.

Theologian Gunkel also categorizes these Psalms as Individual Complaints; O Lord, help me for I have taken refuge in you; I speak well of you; help me; hear me; you have my trust.
Genesis 42 The Joseph story could have symbolized an idealized leader coming to power even when persecuted; may have been written in early Solomon's reign to show the qualities of a righteous steward as ruler; the brothers have return to Jacob with Joseph conditions - one brother is left behind - Benjamin has to come also to prove that the brothers are not spies - a ploy by Joseph that is a combination of revenge and seeking to see his family again - brother do not know what is going on for Joseph is now an Egyptian prince when they think him dead or in slavery. God is fulfilling his mission by feeding his nation.
1 Corinthians 6 Being in Christ does not justify immoral behavior; what is Christian freedom -> life in Christ; freedom is not going beyond what Christ has taught; Shun fornication and be one with the Spirit.

Mark 4 Seems to be that Jesus wants to keep his work secret; does he know human nature which will promote everything that is secret?; series of parables - don't put your light under a basket; the seed spread grows even if we don't know how; mustard seed and the small becoming great.
Today - Let Christ be your path.

For Peace
Eternal God, in whose perfect kingdom no sword is drawn but the sword of righteousness, no strength known but the strength of love: So mightily spread abroad your Spirit, that all peoples may be gathered under the banner of the Prince of Peace, as children of one Father; to whom be dominion and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
