Brief Reflections on the Book of Common Prayer Daily Office Lectionary Readings

Opening Sentence

Christ has entered, not into a sanctuary made with hands, a copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Hebrews 9:24
Psalm 8
You rule the earth; you put all things under the dominion of humanity; Your name, O God, is exhausted to the world.

Hebrews 2
God has given the world to humanity in the world; Jesus was crowned with glory tasted death and suffering; we have one brother in Jesus; let us put our trust in him; He has destroyed death and save us all; he was truly human in all things and knows how we are tested; but we are saved through him.

Matthew 28
The disciples went to the mountain; Jesus gives them the Great Commission; Jesus is with us always until the end of the age.

Collect of the Day: Ascension Day

Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

For Mission

Almighty and everlasting God,
by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people
is governed and sanctified:
Receive our supplications and prayers
which we offer before you for
all members of your holy Church,
that in their vocation and ministry
they may truly and devoutly serve you;
through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
