Ps. 119:49–72; Ps. 49 [53]; Eccles. 3:1–15; Gal. 2:11–21; Matt. 14:1–12

Psalm 119
(Before I moved, I used to meet in a prayer group with some men of faith in Traverse City, and we would always joke at doing Ps 119 every Wednesday; They still meet at Grace Episcopal on Wednesday mornings if you want to join a great group; I miss the fellowship and the rhythm of meeting weekly with them.) Remember me Lord as I am persecuted for the faith; I keep your words; the wicked will not get me for I trust in you; your words to me are more valuable than all the money in the world.

Ecclesiastes 3
(All children of the 60s in American remember this song based on this passage - Click here) There is a time for everything under heaven and an appropriate time; I know that there is nothing better for them to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live; moreover, it is God's gift that all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil. I know that whatever God does endures forever; (vs 12, 13a)

Galatians 2
Jews and Gentiles are justified through faith in Jesus Christ; Debate with Peter (Cephas) over the practice of Christians; we no longer life under that law but the law of Jesus Christ by faith alone.

Matthew 14
Herod the king at that time heard of Jesus and thought John the Baptist had risen from the dead; the story continues about the execution of John and the dance of a young woman; and his disciples buried his body.

Proper 4  | The Sunday closest to June 1
O God, your never-failing providence sets in order all things both in heaven and earth: Put away from us, we entreat you, all hurtful things, and give us those things which are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
