Opening Sentence
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.   John 1:14

Today | Sunday | 31 July 2016 | Eleventh Sunday in Pentecost
Psalm 96 | Enthronement Psalm - Click here
Sing to the Lord a new song; declare God's deeds to the nations; the Lord is king let the earth and heavens rejoice.

Judges 6 Because the people did evil in the sight of the Lord, they were handed over to Midianites and were oppressed; Gideon comes into the presence of the angel of the Lord and does not die but sees the sacrifice being made to the Lord.

2 Corinthians 9 | Background
Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. As it is written,
‘He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor;
    his righteousness  endures for ever.’
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us; for the rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God.
Mark 3 | Background
People thought Jesus was crazy; his family came to take him away for he was casting out demons; can a house divide against itself? Jesus says no; power given by God alone.

Collect of the Day: proper 13

Let your continual mercy, O Lord, cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your help, protect and govern it always by your goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Mission

Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Collect for Sundays

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
