Today |
Psalm 131
I quiet my soul to wait to hear the Lord.

Acts 24
A trial begins between Paul and Jerusalem Jewish leaders before Felix, Governor of Rome; Leaders - Paul causes riots and descent and is a ringleader of rebellion; Paul - I am a faithful Jew and was just worshipping in Jerusalem when some Asian Jews came to the Temple and created descent- I was merely talking about the resurrection and other faith matters; Felix stays the trial until the Tribune comes to hear it also; Paul is put on house arrest by Felix and given some freedom of movement. He is still under guard because of the threat of assassination.

Luke 7
Jesus is invited to dinner at a Pharisee’s home; a woman, a sinner, washes Jesus’ feet with her tears; Simon,the Pharisee, wonders to himself, if Jesus only knew about this sinner he would not let her touch him; Jesus tells a story of who is in more debt and is forgiven more; he pronounces forgiveness to the woman which causes more of a stir among the religious leaders for only God can forgive; Jesus continues to focus on the woman and says her faith has saved her.

Prayers
A Collect for the Renewal of Life
O God, the King eternal,
who divides the day from the night
and turns the shadow of death into the morning:
Drive far from us all wrong desires,
incline our hearts to keep your law,
and guide our feet into the way of peace;
that, having done your will with cheerfulness while it was day, we may, when night comes,
rejoice to give you thanks;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect of the Day: proper 22

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
