Psalm 121
Where do I see God?
In the creation in everything;
God watches over me all of the time;
The Lord will keep watch and protect me.
Acts 23
A group of 40 religious zealots pledge to kill Paul through an ambush; Paul’s sister hears of it and tells someone who tells Paul who tells the guard who tells the Tribune who does not want anyone to hear of the plot.
Luke 7
Jesus finishes his teaching and moves along the way and a messenger from a Roman Centurion asks him to heal a servant; Jesus goes there but along the way a messenger from the Centurion stops Jesus says to him just say the word and my servant will be healed because I know what authority is; Jesus says what great faith; and the messenger finds the servant healed when he returns.
Prayers
Collect of the Day: proper 22
Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve: Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer of Discipleship
Loving God,
I thank you for choosing me to be your disciple
And for the gift of your Son, Jesus.
Help me proclaim and bear witness to the Gospel
By word and by deed
Today and every day.
Open my heart to
The outcast, the forgotten,
The lonely, the sick, and the poor.
Grant me the courage
To think, to choose, and to live as a Christian,
Joyfully obedient to God.
Amen
