Psalm 119
Aleph
Happy are those who are blameless and observe what God has commanded;
May I keep your statutes;
Don’t forsake me;
I treasure your promises in my heart.

Beth
Open my eyes that I might see the wonders of your law.

Acts 27
Paul is being transported to Rome and runs into rough weather; the crew does not listen to Paul’s predictions and move forward; the storm takes them, their food, the means of transporting themselves, and finally their hope; Paul calms them to say an angel of the God he loves told him that they would survive but the boat would be lost; have courage and live.

Luke 9
Three things:
  1. Jesus sends out the 12 disciples with nothing but faith and the authority and power of God.
  2. Herod the king begins to worry about what he has heard about Jesus and seeks him out.
  3. The 12 come back and a large crowd follows them to hear Jesus teaching; it’s time to eat and there is no food; Jesus - You feed them; Disciples - with what, we only have 5 loaves and two fish; Jesus - Watch and give thanks and feeds 5,000 families and has leftovers.

Prayers
Collect of the Day: proper 23
Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
