Readings

Psalm 102 | Individual Lament - Background
Lord, hear my prayer, please listen to me for I am suffering;
I am skin and bones; I am lonely;
I am a shadow;
But you, O Lord, are eternal;
Now is the time to save me and Zion and the homeless;
Please set free the captive...

1 Timothy 5 | Background
Paul continues to write to Tim about the leaders of the church;
He discusses elders; keep yourself pure.

Mark 12 | Background
Jesus was asked the greatest commandment - Jesus answered, 'The first is, "Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." The second is this, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." There is no other commandment greater than these.' - all there hearing this were left in wonderment at this wisdom.

Today | Collect of the Day | Sixth Sunday after Epiphany
O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: Mercifully accept our prayers; and because in our weakness we can do nothing good without you, give us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Mission
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Social Justice

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
