Days of Lent - Week 3

Rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and repents of evil. | Joel 2:13 | BCP p. 76

Readings

Psalm 78 | Free Composition - Background
Hear the teachings of the Lord;
We will recount the great deeds and actions of God;
So the generations to come will not forget God and keep their trust in the Lord;
Some forgot the Exodus and liberation, but they tested God;
They had no faith, but the Lord gave them food enough;
After a time of judgment, they only spoke with their mouths and not faith;
And they were gone like a breath.

Romans 4 |
Paul - More about faith and grace and it being shared to all - even the children of Abraham; his faith carried him as God would do as promised; Jesus was raised for our justification - to be made right with God.

John 7 |
Jesus - Still at the Festival of Booths in Jerusalem -  Come to me and drink rivers of living waters -- the bestowing of the Spirit; the temple police would not arrest him;
Nicodemus said we have a process, but the religious leaders said no prophet could come from Galilee (not knowing that Jesus was born of the royal house of David).

Today | Collect of the Day | Third Sunday in Lent
Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

For Mission
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

For the Conservation of Natural Resources

Almighty God, in giving us
dominion over things on earth,
you made us fellow workers in your creation:
Give us wisdom and reverence
so to use the resources of nature,
that no one may suffer from our abuse of them,
and that generations yet to come
may continue to praise you for your bounty;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
