Days of Pentecost

The earth is the Lord’s for he made it: O come, let us adore him.| BCP p. 44

Readings

Psalm 119 | Background
I love your law, O Lord;
I am wiser for it;
How sweet are your words to my taste;
Your word gives me a light to walk everywhere -
Be with me as I journey and keep me.

1 Samuel 2
The priest servants took what they wanted and did only selfish things;
The Lord blessed Hannah and gave her sons;
Eli the high priest was rebuking his sons for their practices;
Samuel grew in the ways of the Lord.

Acts 2 | Background
Peter - The Holy Spirit came to the believers at Pentecost and one of the gifts was that everyone from everywhere understand what was being said in their native tongue; Peter spoke of the fulfillment of the prophet Joel when all would dream dreams, see visions, and know the works of the Lord.

Luke 20 | Background
Jesus - Some religious leaders that did not believe in the resurrection gave Jesus a test on who would be married to whom after the resurrection; Jesus replies it will be different after the resurrection for we will be new being like the angels.

Today | Collect of the Day: Pentecost 2 | Proper 6*
Keep, O Lord, your household the Church in your steadfast faith and love, that through your grace we may proclaim your truth with boldness, and minister your justice with compassion; for the sake of our Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

For Mission

Almighty and everlasting God,
by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people
is governed and sanctified:
Receive our supplications and prayers
which we offer before you for
all members of your holy Church,
that in their vocation and ministry
they may truly and devoutly serve you;
through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Social Justice

Grant, O God, that your holy and life-giving Spirit may so move every human heart, that barriers which divide us may crumble, suspicions disappear, and hatreds cease; that our divisions being healed, we may live in justice and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

* Propers are the readings based on a calendar in the Book of Common Prayer. Proper 6, Year A is the Sunday closest to June 15 based on the calendar in the BCP.
