Days of Pentecost | Mary Magdalene
Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the skies rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation may spring up, and let it cause righteousness to sprout up also. | Isaiah 45:8, NRSV| Enriching Our Worship 1, p.18

Today | Saturday | 22 July 2017
Even when death entangled me, the Lord heard my cry;
My soul rests in the Lord;
I will lift up the cup of salvation;
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his servants;
In the midst of You I will dwell forever.
Zephaniah 3 |
Sing aloud everyone for God is very present to us;
Do not be afraid for you will be saved;
The very Lord God is in our midst;
It is like a festival when God brings us home.
Mark 15 | Background
Jesus on the cross gave a loud cry and breathed his last;
A Roman recognized him as the Son of God;
Two Marys, Magdalene and the mother of James were there;
Joseph of Arimathea claimed the body and laid it in a new tomb;
Pilate investigated if Jesus was truly dead;
In a linen cloth he was laid into the tomb;
After the Sabbath; the Marys went to the tomb and found it empty;
A young man was there in a white robe - He has been raised and is not here;
Go tell the others and watch for him in Galilee.

Collect for the Day
Lord, mercifully receive the prayers of your people who call upon you, and grant that they may know and understand what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
For Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
Canticle C
The Song of Hannah | 1 Samuel 2:1-8 | Enriching Our Worship 1
My heart exults in you, O God; * my triumph song is lifted in you.
My mouth derides my enemies, * for I rejoice in your salvation.
There is none holy like you, * nor any rock to be compared to you, our God.
Do not heap up prideful words or speak in arrogance; * Only God is knowing and weighs all actions.
The bows of the mighty are broken, * but the weak are clothed in strength. Those once full now labor for bread, * those who hungered now are well fed. The childless woman has borne sevenfold, * while the mother of many is forlorn.
God destroys and brings to life, casts down and raises up; * gives wealth or takes it away, humbles and dignifies.
God raises the poor from the dust; * and lifts the needy from the ash heap
To make them sit with the rulers * and inherit a place of honor.
For the pillars of the earth are God’s * on which the whole earth is founded.
Collect of the Day: Mary Magdalene
Almighty God, whose blessed Son restored Mary Magdalene to health of body and of mind, and called her to be a witness of his resurrection: Mercifully grant that by your grace we may be healed from all our infirmities and know you in the power of his unending life; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
