Shower, O heavens, from above, and let the skies rain down righteousness; let the earth open, that salvation may spring up, and let it cause righteousness to sprout up also. | Isaiah 45:8, NRSV | Enriching Our Worship 1, p.18

Readings
Today | Tuesday | 8 August 2017
Psalm 78 | Background
Hear my teaching, O my people;
I will recount the stories of old and tell of salvation;
Those generations to come will know these stories;
God saved them! God has mercy!

2 Samuel 7 | David will not build the temple but his son; his line will rule forever;

Acts 18 |
A crowd was gathered against Paul and he was taken to the Tribune Gallio but Gallio said there was no case; Paul encounters Apollos who did not know the Holy Spirit -  Paul explained the Way of God accurately to him giving him the tools to declare Jesus as Messiah.

Mark 8 |
Jesus - He healed a blind man and sent him home; with his disciples, Jesus asked Who do people say that I am? Peter said You are the Messiah; Jesus taught them that the Son of Man must suffer and rejected by all; Peter did not agree and said so and Jesus rebuked him. Set your mind on divine things.

Today | Transfiguration
Collect for the Day
O God, who on the holy mount revealed to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistening: Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may by faith behold the King in his beauty; who with you, O Father, and you, O Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
For Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
