Psalm 118 | Background
Give thanks to the Lord for God is good;
God is my strength and my song because God saves me;
Open the gates of righteousness and I will enter giving thanks to the Lord;
The one who was rejected is now the chief corner stone;
God’s mercy is forever.

Acts 23 |
Some 40 men swear they will not eat until they have killed Paul; his nephew hears of the plot and tells Paul; who tells the Roman Official; and Paul is taken away under guard to Caesarea.

Mark 11 |
Jesus is asked by what authority he is teaching and he asks by what authority was John the Baptist teaching; and the religious leaders could not answer him and so he did not; Jesus told the story of the wicked tenants who killed everyone that the Master sent including the Son; the leadership knew he was talking about them and they wanted to arrest him but could not because of the crowd.

Collect for the Day
Almighty God, you have given your only Son to be for us a sacrifice for sin, and also an example of godly life: Give us grace to receive thankfully the fruits of his redeeming work, and to follow daily in the blessed steps of his most holy life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
For Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.
