Collect for the Day
Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

For Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hardwood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen
For our Country
Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech you that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad to do your will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion us into one united people. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in your Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to your law, we may show forth your praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in you to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.Prayers for another tragedy
Lord, hear our prayer, and let our cry come to you...
Gracious God, please send your blessing to all people devastated by the attack on the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. We commend to your loving care the souls of the twenty-six faithful people who were suddenly and violently killed in the midst of worship. We pray for the others who were wounded and traumatized. We hold in our hearts the families and friends now forever changed by grief and loss, that you may bring them strength, consolation, courage, and comfort to face the days ahead.
We pray in gratitude for the skilled and courageous first responders who entered the chaos to protect and serve. And we pray, as Jesus did, for the killer.
Finally, O God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us. Help us all to respond to this tragedy with generosity in prayer, assistance, and comfort to the best of our abilities. And may all people of good will hold fast to love and hope, that we might not lose heart, but labor together to find wise and effective ways to grapple with the vortex of violence that is darkening our country and our world.
We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
