My Quick Bible Study & Prayers Based on
Book of Common Prayer Daily Office Readings
in the Pentecost Season

Opening Sentence |
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be
acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength
and my redeemer.
Psalm 19:14 | BCP p. 78

Daily Office Prayers |

Readings | Biblegateway.com |
Monday
Psalm 1, 2, 3 & 4, 7
Job 4:1; 5:1-11, 17-21, 26-27
Acts 9:19b-31
John 6:52-59

Psalm 1 | Background |
The psalmist compares two ways of life - the followers of the
right path and the wicked.

Acts 9
Saul/Paul begins teaching in synagogues in Damascus; his
Teaching was amazing considering that he used to persecute
the Christians; he was so good that Jewish leadership plotted
to kill him; he was taken before the disciple in Jerusalem
and Barnabas told of Paul’s conversion; they took him away
to a safe place and the movement of Jesus increased. How have
people accepted you when you have changed your life?

John 6
Jesus describing himself as the Bread from Heaven was a bizarre
concept that many did not understand; Jesus talks of Holy Communion
and they don’t understand. One of the great mysteries of faith.

Tomorrow |
Tuesday
Psalm 5, 6 & 10, 11
Job 6:1-4, 8-15, 21
Acts 9:32-43
John 6:60-71

Prayers and Intercessions
Collect for Week
Grant, O merciful God, that your Church, being gathered
together in unity by your Holy Spirit, may show forth your
power among all peoples, to the glory of your Name;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
(Proper 16, Year B)

For Mission
O God and Father of all, whom the whole heavens adore:
Let the whole earth also worship you, all nations obey you,
all tongues confess and bless you, and men and women
everywhere love you and serve you in peace; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Courage and Assurance
O God,
you have called your servants to ventures
of which we cannot see the ending,
by paths as yet untrodden,
through perils unknown.

Give us faith to go out with good courage,
not knowing where we go,
but only that your hand is leading us
and your love supporting us.  Amen

For the Passing of a Child

Why, O Lord, did my child die?
My soul is ripped out and my heart bleeds all over me.
I just don’t understand …
But you are with me in this desolation.
I know you weep with me and you cry with me.
Take care of my child in your loving arms.
Be with me in this sorrowful time when I don’t understand.
I miss my child.
Bless me and surround with me with your presence and
legions of angels to protect me.
Be with me in this next breath and every breath I take.
My heart hurts. I miss my child.
I am in your care forever.
Amen

AR |
May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing
through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
