Today’s Reading

1/14/2019     Day 14   Genesis 42:1 - 45:28
Reflection
More background on the patriarch dynasty: NOAB5, p.63 (See Sources page)

The saga continues with the brothers of Joseph coming to
Egypt and not recognizing who Joseph really is.  Joseph
during this famine was governor of the land and sold
Everything. He calls for a ransom after the brothers are
accused to bring back the youngest brother before they
will get the necessary food. Joseph heaps guilt upon guilt
on them. As starvation continues, the brothers are forced
to come back with the brother. Joseph set them up again.
A cup is found, they are accused of stealing, he sends
them back with the ransom of Benjamin and now they
bring Jacob down this time a third time when they need
food again. Joseph reveals himself to the entire family.
Pharaoh invites the whole of Israel to Egypt and live for
the great things that Joseph has done. And they come.

Meditation:
Why do families have to be so hard on each other when
simple forgiveness might all be needed?

Prayer:
Bless all families as You do, keep them and preserve them
in the faith of our fathers and mothers. Amen.

Psalm 98 or
Cantate Domino

Sing to the LORD a new song, *
for he has done marvelous things.
With his right hand and his holy arm *
has he won for himself the victory.
The LORD has made known his victory; *
his righteousness has he openly shown in
the sight of the nations.
He remembers his mercy and faithfulness to
the house of Israel, *
and all the ends of the earth have seen the
victory of our God.
Shout with joy to the LORD, all you lands; *
lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing.
Sing to the LORD with the harp, *
with the harp and the voice of song.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn *
shout with joy before the King, the LORD.
Let the sea make a noise and all that is in it, *
the lands and those who dwell therein.
Let the rivers clap their hands, *
and let the hills ring out with joy before the LORD,
when he comes to judge the earth.
In righteousness shall he judge the world *
and the peoples with equity.
