Today’s Reading
1/16/2019     Day 16   Exodus 1:1 - 4:31

Reflection:
Of the books in the Pentateuch (the Torah), Exodus is the most
important.   Background (please read this!). This work represents
the telling and retelling over the centuries before it is written down
in final form.

We find time as gone on for the people of Israel in Egypt. Joseph is
forgotten as well as the king that knew him. Egyptians become afraid
of the Hebrews because of their sheer numbers and enslave them and
even resort to killing off male newborns. Moses is born and retrieved
by the ruling house of Egypt and is raised as a prince. He is caught in
murder and flees to Midian and the foot of Mt Sinai.

God hears the suffering of Israel and calls Moses via a burning bush
to liberate the people and be restored in a new land filled with all
abundance -milk and honey - to bring God’s people there. God
empowers Moses with the ability to do miracles and wonders. Aaron
is called to go with Moses on this enterprise of liberation and
restoration.

Meditation/Contemplate:
  1. Have you been on Holy Ground? What was it like?
  2. How do we move everyone who is called by God into ministry to act?

Prayer:
Have me remember all that you have created, My God, and the calling
You have given me to serve. Amen

Psalm 98 or
Cantate Domino

Sing to the LORD a new song, *
for he has done marvelous things.
With his right hand and his holy arm *
has he won for himself the victory.
The LORD has made known his victory; *
his righteousness has he openly shown in
the sight of the nations.
He remembers his mercy and faithfulness to
the house of Israel, *
and all the ends of the earth have seen the
victory of our God.
Shout with joy to the LORD, all you lands; *
lift up your voice, rejoice, and sing.
Sing to the LORD with the harp, *
with the harp and the voice of song.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn *
shout with joy before the King, the LORD.
Let the sea make a noise and all that is in it, *
the lands and those who dwell therein.
Let the rivers clap their hands, *
and let the hills ring out with joy before the LORD,
when he comes to judge the earth.
In righteousness shall he judge the world *
and the peoples with equity.
