2/25/2019     Day 56   Judges 1:1 - 3:6

Reflection:

Chabad.org.  Gregory Mobley writes in NOAVB5 - Judges is
Named for the system of people that settled disputes between
the time of Joshua and the monarchy. Maybe between 1200 BCE -
1025 BCE (bc).

Structure-
1:1- 2:5 | Days after Joshua; tribal fortunes against Canaanites;
seems to have a bias toward Judah (southern kingdom)

2:6 - 16:31 | Days of the Judges with featured ones at end of the section.

17:1 - 21:25 | No centralized government or priesthood; disarray;
People take to local gods as they assimilate.

Judges have highs and lows and are flawed.

Section for today speaks to angel showing up and how they have
Failed to follow the Covenant. Sounds like a prophet. Note 2:11-23
and the formula of the test of Israel’s faith.

Meditation/Contemplate:

When judges were in place - God and the faith persisted, when judge
died -the faith declines.

Prayer:

May I daily renew my faith in you, O Eternal One.

O Lord, you have taught us that without love whatever we do
is worth nothing: Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts
your greatest gift, which is love, the true bond of peace and of
all virtue, without which whoever lives is accounted dead
before you. Grant this for the sake of your only Son Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
