Today’s Reading

3/7/2019     Day 66    1 Samuel 8:1 - 12:25

Reflection:

Background by Center of Biblical Studies. Background by
Chabad.org.  Samuel was one book and should be read that way.
The Judges are not working so the people ask Samuel for a king;
God says to Samuel give them a king; Samuel lists out to the people
Everything that a king is going to do to them yet they still want a king.
Saul, who has lost some donkeys, finds Samuel who anoints him as
King; Samuel reports to the people that God has given them a king;
Meditation/Contemplate:
Pray for our leaders whether we agree with them or not.

Prayer:
O Lord our Governor, whose glory is in all the world: We commend
this nation to thy merciful care, that, being guided by thy Providence,
we may dwell secure in thy peace. Grant to the President of the United
States, the Governor of this State (or Commonwealth), and to all in
authority, wisdom and strength to know and to do thy will. Fill them
with the love of truth and righteousness, and make them ever mindful
of their calling to serve this people in thy fear; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God,
world without end. Amen. (BCP)

Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made and
forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and
contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and
acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all
mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
forever and ever. Amen. (BCP)
