Today -  

Chapter 40 - the people are forgiven - the call of St. John
the Baptist is here … prepare ye the way of the Lord.
The grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of the
Lord will stand forever. What follows is a description of God.

Chapter 41 - Israel is assured of God’s help! I have chosen you!
Idols are bad and are nothing. God will give all the good tidings!

Chapter 42 - qualities of the servant of the Lord! New things
I will declare! Sing to the Lord a new song! Why is Israel disobedient?

Chapter 43 - restoration and promise of protection forever.
God says I am the redeemer. Honor me.

Chapter 44 - I will pour my spirit upon your descendants,
and my blessing to your offspring. Don’t worship idols!

Chapter 45 - Cyrus of Babylon will rule and will restore the Temple
And the people to Israel.

Chapter 46 - God is going to deliver the people as long as they
despise idols and worship God.

Chapter 47 - Babylon will be dust and go into darkness.
They will not be saved.

Chapter 48 - The Lord says from this time forth I will declare
new things. I AM the Lord your God. There is no peace for the
wicked.

A Prayer Attributed to St. Francis

Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is discord, union;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

Grant that we may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love. 

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
