Today -
Luke writes to his patron of the account of the Apostles of
Jesus. The starting point is Jesus saying the Holy Spirit will come
and ascends into heaven. The apostles replace Judas; the Holy
Spirit comeson the day of Pentecost and people from all over
the know Roman world can hear and understand what these people
are saying. Peter gives a sermon on the coming of Jesus and salvation.
The community itself shares all in common to build the community.
The first believers learned to pray, work in common, and heard the
teachings of the Apostles.

Background |
Background by Center of Biblical Studies.
The Book of the Acts of the Apostle is Luke volume 2.
The starting point is the Ascension of Jesus, the coming
of the Holy Spirit (which is the founding of the Church),
and Peter and Paul featured in the missionary movement
of the Church. About midway through the book, the case
changes from them to us. It is an adventure in what various
Apostles go through in getting the word out on Jesus. Based
in the Roman Empire of the middle east and west Asia and
Europe. The Church struggles to figure out what they are;
what to do with non-believers; and how to live out the
freedom of God’s grace in Jesus Christ as led by the Holy Spirit.

O Lord God, tireless guardian of your people,
You are always ready to hear our cries.
You are always ready to hear our cries.
Teach us to rely day and night on your care.
Inspire us to seek your enduring justice for all
this suffering world, through Jesus Christ,
our Savior and Lord.
