Reflection |

Today -

Chapter 3 - Peter and John are going to the Temple;
A lame man is healed by them. He is now “walking
and leaping and praising God.” Peter has his second
sermon talking about salvation in Jesus Christ.

Chapter 4 - Sadducees, the religious leaders who did NOT
believe in the resurrection, were annoyed at Peter and John
and got them arrested; Peter filled with the Holy Spirit preached;
The leaders instructed them not to proclaim in the name of
Jesus - Peter and John said it was not up to them. They
Prayed for the community of believers - they shared everything
in common.

Chapter 5 - Two of them got greedy and withheld a portion
and lied about it.  They were struck dead. There were many
signs and wonders around them. Numbers grew. People healed.
The second arrest of the apostles. Gamaliel - a wise man - said to
let them go and see if it from God. If it is not - it will die. They
flogged them. They did not cease their teaching.

Chapter 6 - Because of the size of the community, seven deacons
were selected to do work among the people. Stephen is arrested
because of his preaching.

Chapter 7 - Stephen begins to preach in his defense tells of the
salvation history of the people through Moses to Jesus. Stephen
sees Jesus next to God and is killed for blasphemy. A zealot named
Saul (Paul) approved of the killing. Persecution followed.

The Book of the Acts of the Apostle is Luke volume 2.
The starting point is the Ascension of Jesus, the coming
of the Holy Spirit (which is the founding of the Church),
and Peter and Paul featured in the missionary movement
of the Church. About midway through the book, the case

Apostles go through in getting the word out on Jesus. Based
in the Roman Empire of the middle east and west Asia and
Europe. The Church struggles to figure out what they are;
what to do with non-believers; and how to live out the
freedom of God’s grace in Jesus Christ as led by the Holy Spirit.
