Today’s Reading -

10/23/2019     Day 296 John 20:1 - 21:35

Reflection |
Today -
Chapter 20 - Mary goes to the empty tomb and Jesus
appears before Mary; She has seen the Lord risen and
tells the other disciples. They are fearful but Jesus
appears to them all - Received the Holy Spirit; if you
forgive people will be forgiven. Thomas not there and
did not believe it. A week later Jesus appears to him -
Jesus made other appearances - Messiah, Son of God.
Chapter 21 - some scholars think this chapter is a later
addition - Jesus cooks breakfast - Simon from Jesus
“Feed my Sheep”; There were many other things that
Jesus did not written here but these are written that
you know they are true.

More Gospel of John by Mark Powell
Because John is so different from the other gospel,
there is much debate among scholars about the how
of the writing of John.
Some say it was written between 90 - 140 c.e. Others
toward the end of the century of the 100s.
Some say it was written by John the Elder and others
say it was a document written by a community over a
period of time - 50 - 100 years.

The community of the beloved disciples seems to have
been followers of Jesus, separated from the world, and
looking continually to a Jesus of the cosmos that came
down from heaven and now rules the universe.
Clement of Alexander said that John wrote a spiritual
Gospel.
The gospel of John is different.  Look at how Jesus is
described differently from the other gospels.
