The Bible in Time
Based on impressions of the Book of Common

Prayer Daily Office Lectionary texts for the day.

Today - Sunday, 12 July 2020
Proper 10 - Year Two

Psalm 148, 149, 150
Joshua 1:1-18
Acts 21:3-15

Mark 1:21-27

Psalm 148

Praise in the heights and the depths, to the

creator of the stars and seas, maker of wild beasts

and tame, glory of humankind.

(Psalter, p. 148)

Joshua 1 - Background

Military commander leading the people into the

promised land. Maybe written post-exile (538 BCE?).

Here Joshua is commissioned by God and begins to build

the invasion force for God is with them.

Acts 21

Paul continues his travels to Jerusalem stopping over

to various faith communities and hearing that he is to

be arrested there. He stays with various disciples.

Mark 21

Jesus teaching amazes everyone even the religious

establishment. He casts out a demon who names Jesus

as the Holy One of God. Jesus fame spreads. He has the

authority of God.

Why are Sunday scriptures different than the rest

of the Daily Office Lectionary?
