Prayer Suggestion:
Almighty Father, who inspired Simon Peter, first among the apostles, to confess Jesus as Messiah and Son of the living God: Keep your Church steadfast upon the rock of this faith, so that in unity and peace we may proclaim the one truth and follow the one Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Book of Common Prayer - Collect for the
Confession of St. Peter the Apostle -
Dear Friends in Christ,
Edwards Key points -
The year is 39 CE
Antipas is now King of Israel
Caligula (Rome) winters away and assignation plot abound
Church has moved out of Jerusalem to Judea, Galilee, and Samaria during a time of persecution.
Non-Jews being accepted in Church in Antioch and numbers increasing.
My Thoughts-
Cornelius, a centurion in Italian cohort - a believer and prayer to God - receives a vision to accept Peter as a guest
Two things happen to Peter
Sees vision of all band Jewish foods and told to eat.
He goes to Cornelius and C’s household is baptized into the faith of Jesus and received the Holy Spirit.
Peter is amazed that even Gentiles (non-Jews) could believe in God.
God is for everyone!!!
In Christ,
Dave Eitland
