Day 34 - Moving On!

Paul and Silas in Prison

Prayer Suggestion |

A Collect for Guidance

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget you, but may remember that we are ever walking in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Edward’s Key Points Today

  • Great insight at bottom of p. 135 - Now Paul’s letters are read pertaining to us as individuals in the 21st century. Edwards reminds us that the Letter to the Galatians is written to a group of congregations - a body of people - and applied primarily to the church gathered as congregation and it as a living community. So the insights should be applied that way.

  • Galatians is the first written according to Edwards.

  • We forget that the Christian Church did NOT have a New Testament at this time - just each other and wandering evangelists teaching the way of Christ.

  • Edwards insists that the current New Testament must be revised to reflect a chronological approach in layout rather than the current form.

  • He is not sure if Titus delivered the letter to the congregations.

  • There were two letters - Galatians and the letter of the ruling of the Jerusalem Council for the Gentile Christian that Paul would deliver to the community. Grace alone.

My Thoughts on Today’s Session -

  • The church leaders even in the first century, were sometimes not in agreement with how the ministry should proceed. Paul and Silus spilt with Barnabas and John Mark and go off to previously established churches in Syria and Cilicia.

  • Two messages

    • Have believers hear of the grace of God.

    • Went to strengthen the churches in that area.

How have you experienced God’s grace today?
