Day 36 - Year 50 ce/ad - Antics in Philippi
Prayer Suggestion |
A Collect for Mission
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hardwood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.

Edward’s Key Points Today
Edward’s notes that the churches in Galatia are founded no more than three years when the letter is written and goes back with Silas and Timothy for second visits.
Second Missionary Journey takes them over to Europe (Northern Greece)
He describes the uniqueness of Philippi - pro-Roman rule.
All Jews are ordered to leave Rome and Philippi follows. The only God-fearers left in Philippi were a woman named Lydia and her friends.
Paul and Silus are arrested and beaten. They are released and apologized to for beating being Roman citizens. They leave the city.
The case of the text shifts to the third person - “We”. Students like us are not sure when the writer of Luke and Acts showed up.
All Jews are angry at the Roman government for evicting Jews in Rome by Claudius.

My Thoughts on Today’s Session -
Timothy a follower of Jesus with Paul is of mixed lineage with a Jewish mother and Greek father.
Paul eliminates the power of a girl that had a gift of divination where her owners made a lot of money. They get made and Paul and Silas are arrested, beaten, and thrown into prison.
In the night an earthquake opens the prison but they stay. The jailer fears a prison break and its repercussions. Paul declares they are all still there. The jailer and his household receive Jesus and are baptized.
Lydia’s is known for hospitality.
Invite your friends to our journey.
In Christ,
Dave Eitland
