Day 50 - Preparation for Expansion

Prayer Suggestion |

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon
the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus
Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant
us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their
teaching, that we may be made a holy temple
acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Edwards insights for Today’s Reading-

  • After ending his 2nd missionary journey,
Paul resides in Antioch for a year prepping
    for Journey 3.

  • Paul’s purpose to come to Ephesus is to
create a church that is tasked to train future
leaders for founding new churches in the region.

  • Each leader has to experience church life
before founding a new church. Churches
are staffed by leaders in congregations.

  • Apollos (not trained this way) becomes a
    leader of the Corinth church.

My Thoughts on Today’s Session -

See NOAB5 per below |
Notes pp. 1990 - 1992

Paul’s clear mandate is to create churches
beyond synagogues to create community and
faith. The mission is to create more communities
of faith so they create more communities of faith.
This action moves the Church in a constant creation
Modality (creating new churches) rather than building
up one local church. Paul’s model is the expansion
Through outreach to make more disciples. Disciples
go out a do ministry as God calls them to do.

Churches then becoming centers for mission to enable
Disciples to do their ministry and worship the Lord.
Churches in the modern era are the places where
Disciples are asked, “What is God calling you to do?”
and giving them the tools of faith to make this happen.

May the Holy Spirit be in your life!
