Parables - The Hidden Treasure
Parables - The Hidden Treasure
Dear Siblings in God,
Grace and peace from our loving God.
Let us pray …
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen

I would ask you to read the Hidden Treasure parable from Matthew 13: 44 (Snodgrass).
Jesus talks about the Kingdom of God being like a secret treasure that is found in a field where the person discovering it reburies it and goes and sells everything they own in order to purchase the field and recover the treasure they find.
I love to watch movies. My favorite kind of movie is called “caper” or “heist ” movies. A group of robbers figures out a way to break into somewhere and find the treasure and sneak it away without getting caught. The caper is usually set in an impossible timeline and has to be kept secret with every person having a particular job to make it work or not. Movies like “Flawless”, “The Sting”, and “Oceans 8, 11, 12, and 13” are among my favorites.
Being retired I have the time to remember most of the hidden treasures of what I have learned and experienced.
Jesus through his teachings and sacrifice has given me one of the greatest hidden treasures of my life … that being faith and the wonder of the Kingdom of God and the ministry you and I are doing with the Holy Spirit to change the world by helping our neighbors. These treasures do come to me suddenly, secretly, and call me to instantaneous action. (Note: Kendall, pp. 52 -56)
Serving through loving others whom God loves (everyone) is the greatest hidden treasure we have as people in the Kingdom. And we get to experience and dance with God daily if we want to.
May we be blessed as we journey with the Holy Spirit.
May God be with you.
Sincerely,
Dave Eitland
